When Harlan and Glenna Wilson opened the doors to their business in 1941, they did so with a pledge to provide Charleston families with the highest-quality service, personal attention and genuine care. From that day on, the staff members of Wilson Funeral Home have continued to uphold and strengthen this reputation for excellence in family care. It is truly a home for families and funerals, where the atmosphere speaks of care and concern for the families we serve.

Long known for its impressive architecture and meticulously maintained lawn, the beautiful house, originally built in 1922, at the corner of Lee Street West and Delaware Avenue has become a trusted Charleston tradition. Its quaint wrought-iron fence and five cast-iron yard lamps came from the West Virginia State Capitol building that burned in 1921. The lovely garden fountains and the wide porches with 18 white columns are but simple indications of the beauty that lies within.

Inside, visitors will find luxurious furnishings and charming accents rich in history and detail. At the second floor landing, a magnificent 10-foot by 12-foot stained-glass window visible from the majestic Wilson staircase has become a familiar highlight of this tranquil setting. With its marble-top tables, converted oil lamps, platform rocking chairs and large antique wall mirrors, the whole atmosphere speaks of care and concern for the families we serve. The lovely chapel and private family rooms are accessible from an elevator, which is convenient to the parking lot and makes the entire funeral home available to those with special needs. Sitting and arrangement rooms can also be found here. Ample, well-lighted parking and covered entranceways add to the comfort of Wilson’s guests.

We know the importance of serving families at a time of grief. We’re here to listen and provide options to meet your needs. Whether you prefer cremation with a small family gathering or would like a large traditional funeral, you can trust our caring, professional staff to assist you in planning and honoring your final wishes. When the Wilson family opened their funeral home more than 60 years ago, family service was first and foremost on their minds, and we continue that belief today.

At Wilson Funeral Home, we believe that every life is unique, and every funeral should be too. We celebrate life. For those who wish to plan their arrangements in advance, we offer The Simplicity Plan® prearrangement program, an easy way to handle an important family responsibility.
